Agartala, December 30, 2024: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced the establishment of pink toilets across the 19 civic bodies in Tripura to provide hygienic facilities for working women. “Existing public toilets are often unsuitable for women due to hygiene concerns. Pink toilets, designated exclusively for women, aim to address this issue,” Dr. Saha stated. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, symbolized by the exclusive pink color of the toilets.

Dr. Saha emphasized the government’s track record in empowering women through various policies. “We have implemented 33 percent reservation for women in governance and increased the quota for women soldiers in the Tripura State Rifles from 15 percent to 33 percent. Additionally, nine women police stations have been established across the state to combat crimes against women effectively,” he said.

Highlighting economic empowerment, Dr. Saha noted the success of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in creating sustainable livelihoods. “Over 85,000 Lakhpati Didis have earned more than ₹1 lakh through SHG activities. We are now working on appointing Drone Didis to further enhance women’s participation in emerging sectors,” he added. The Chief Minister credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for restoring women’s dignity, especially in rural areas.

Speaking at a winter clothes distribution event organized by Ward 40 of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dr. Saha also discussed key outcomes from the 72nd NEC plenary session. “Border security with Bangladesh was a significant topic. We were advised to enhance surveillance along porous patches. I have informed the Union Home Minister about the condition of our borders and highlighted areas needing urgent restoration,” he shared.
