Sikkim police, along with local residents, rescued six tourists from Assam who were stranded in North Sikkim’s Yakshe area on the night of December 29 due to heavy snowfall. The group, traveling on motorcycles, became stuck about 10 kilometers from Lachung in Mangan district as black ice made the roads impassable.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) cleared the route to Yumthang Valley by the morning of December 30. Authorities have urged travelers to exercise caution, as black ice remains a persistent hazard. They have advised checking road conditions and taking necessary safety measures before setting out in the region.
