Agartala, January 03, 2025: The Global Bangla Hindu Alliance has raised alarm over what it calls a “grave crisis” in Bangladesh, alleging that the country has transformed into a militant state, endangering not only its own citizens but also the region.

At a press conference held at the Agartala Press Club on Friday, a representative of the organization Pushpita Gupta highlighted the plight of minorities in Bangladesh and presented a five-point demand to the United Nations.

“Bangladesh is facing an unstable and terrifying situation due to the mass uprisings,” Gupta stated. “Barbaric attacks are being unleashed on Hindus, Chakmas, and other ethnic communities. Over a hundred homes have been torched, Hindu businesses are being looted, and many families have been rendered homeless. The victims are living in a constant state of insecurity,” she added.

Gupta also drew attention to the recent arrest of Chinmoy Prabhu, a prominent Hindu figure, who, according to her, has been detained without cause and denied bail. “This reflects the broader trend of suppression and loss of fundamental rights in the country,” she remarked.

Criticizing the interim government, Gupta said, “Freedom of speech has been snatched away, and individuals speaking out against the government are being arrested. This oppressive environment has transformed Bangladesh into a militant state. The situation is not just dangerous for Bangladesh but poses a threat to the entire region.”

Another representative of the alliance Sushanta Das outlined their demands to the UN, which include: deploying UN peacekeeping forces to ensure the safety of Hindus and other minority communities, utilizing drones to monitor Hindu-dominated areas and enhance security for minorities, rehabilitating displaced minority families, international intervention to ensure justice and restore stability and holding the Bangladeshi government accountable for human rights violations.

The alliance called on the global community to act urgently, emphasizing that failure to address the situation could lead to further unrest and regional instability. “The world cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering of the minorities in Bangladesh,” Das concluded.
