Agartala, Jan 3: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the 13-day Agartala Book Fair on Thursday, which is being held on the outskirts of the state capital.
In his address, CM Saha emphasized the importance of promoting reading culture in the state and encouraged people to gift books instead of bouquets during social events. He explained that such practices would not only encourage reading but also provide economic benefits to writers, publishers, and booksellers.
The Chief Minister also noted the growing participation and sales at the fair each year, describing it as a positive sign of increasing interest in books. He reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering a reading culture as a source of knowledge for the public.
CM Saha also explained the decision to reschedule the fair from February-March to January, which he said was done to accommodate students, who are often busy with exams during those months. “This timing gives students the opportunity to visit the fair and buy books,” he added.
