Gangtok, January 3, 2025 – Sikkim Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur began his first official visit of the year with a comprehensive tour of key locations, including the strategically significant Doklam region. The visit, which took place on January 3, was accompanied by Shri Sanjay Sharma, the Hon’ble Minister of Forest and Environment from Rajasthan.
The Governor was warmly received at 8th Mile JN Road, where he was greeted by local residents, Panchayat members, and officials from the Forest Department and Sikkim Police. During the visit, the Governor and Minister Sharma participated in an environmental initiative by planting an oak tree and discussed various aspects of regional development and environmental conservation.
The visit continued with a trip to Doklam, located at an altitude of 15,000 feet, where the Governor was welcomed by Major General M.S. Rathore, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 17th Mountain Division, along with other military officials. The Governor praised the army personnel for their dedication to securing the region and ensuring national security.
Governor Mathur also visited Kupup, known for housing the world’s highest golf course, to assess its tourism potential. On his return journey, he stopped at Dichu Village, where he interacted with local residents and assured them of Raj Bhavan’s support in addressing their concerns.
