Tripura: Picnic Bus Catches Fire at Jagatpur, Six Injured; CM Dr. Manik Saha Expresses Concern

Agartala, January 06, 2025: A picnic bus caught fire on Sunday evening in the Tripura’s Jagatpur Chowmuhani area under Sidhai police station in West Tripura district leaving several youths injured. The entire bus bearing registration number TR01C-1352 was engulfed in flames before the fire brigade could reach the scene.

The incident took place as the group was returning from a picnic at Brahmakunda followed by Bashgram in West Tripura district. “We were on our way back when we noticed the fire. It started from the generator inside the bus,” said one of the injured youths. Panic ensued as the fire spread rapidly, and the youths struggled to escape the vehicle in the deserted area.

Local residents, upon noticing the fire, alerted the Dum Dum workers and the Mohanpur fire department. Firefighters, along with police and locals, managed to rescue the injured and transport them to the Mohanpur Community Health Center for treatment.

“The fire spread quickly, and we were two to three minutes late in getting out of the bus,” recounted another injured youth. Despite the swift response, approximately 70 to 80 percent of the vehicle was damaged.

Meanwhile, sharing in social media handle, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha wrote “Deeply concerned about the unfortunate incident in Mohanpur, where a picnic bus caught fire following a generator blast. Praying for the speedy recovery of the individuals injured in this tragic event. Six of the injured have been referred to GB Pant Hospital for further treatment. We are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that the injured receive immediate medical attention. Urging everyone to be cautious and mindful while enjoying the picnic.”
