Imphal, January 07, 2024: The Director of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, inaugurated two advanced medical devices—a Fibroscan and a Portable Echo Ultrasound machine—at the Department of Medicine, RIMS, Imphal on Tuesday. The event was attended by Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, and Prof. Dhanaraj Singh Chongtham, Head of the Medicine Department.
Speaking at the inauguration, Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma stated, “The installation of these state-of-the-art machines is a leap forward in our commitment to delivering world-class healthcare. These tools will ensure early diagnosis and timely intervention, ultimately improving patient outcomes.”
The Fibroscan, a first for Northeast India, enables accurate, non-invasive assessment of liver conditions such as cirrhosis and fibrosis, benefitting patients with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic liver diseases. The portable echo machine facilitates bedside cardiac evaluations, offering improved care for critically ill patients.
Prof. Sharma further highlighted RIMS’ plans for upgrading facilities and expanding specialties, including the introduction of a DM course and proposals for additional faculty and senior resident posts. He also emphasized the importance of training programs for faculty, judicious use of equipment, and collaboration with premier institutes for skill enhancement.
The event was attended by Deputy Director (Administration), HODs, faculty members, nursing officials, staff, and students, who expressed enthusiasm for the new facilities. These advancements underscore RIMS’ commitment to delivering cutting-edge healthcare to Manipur and the Northeast region.
