Agartala, January 09, 2025: The BJP-led government has consistently prioritized the welfare of tribal communities, claimed Janajati Morcha President and MDC Bidyut Debbarma during a press conference at the state BJP office on Wednesday.

Accusing the opposition parties, CPIM and Congress, of neglecting tribal interests, Debbarma said, “CPIM and Congress have never genuinely cared about the tribals. Their criticism of the BJP government is baseless and lacks substance.”

The press conference was organized by the Tripura State BJP Janajati Morcha, highlighted the numerous initiatives undertaken by the BJP government to uplift tribal communities since coming to power in 2018. “Our government has implemented various development projects in the Tripura Autonomous District Council (TADC) areas, ensuring tangible benefits for tribal people. This level of commitment was unheard of during the CPIM and Congress regimes,” Debbarma stated.

He elaborated on key initiatives, including the increase in stipends provided by the Tribal Welfare Department and the resettlement of the displaced Bru community. “These steps demonstrate our government’s dedication to improving the lives of tribals. The opposition, on the other hand, is trying to mislead the public with baseless allegations,” he added.

The conference was held against the backdrop of a Raj Bhavan march planned by the Ganamukti Parishad on January 11, which aims to raise allegations against the state government. Countering this, the Janajati Morcha underscored the BJP’s efforts, emphasizing their focus on the overall development of tribal areas.

Responding to questions about the pending ADC Village Committee elections, BJP leaders cited technical issues related to the inclusion and correction of Reang refugee names in the voter list as the primary reason for the delay. “The state government is committed to conducting these elections at the earliest. We are working diligently to resolve the complications,” they assured.

The BJP leadership expressed confidence in their developmental agenda, urging the public to recognize the strides made in tribal welfare under their administration. “The progress speaks for itself,” Debbarma concluded.
