Agartala, January 10, 2025: In a significant move to address pressing issues related to the Agartala Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb chaired the Airport Advisory Committee meeting on Friday. The meeting is being held biannually which served as a platform to discuss the airport’s challenges, potential enhancements and the way forward.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, MP Deb highlighted its importance. “The Airport Advisory Committee meets every six months to deliberate on the advantages, disadvantages, and problems of the airport. It is during these meetings that many issues are resolved. For challenges that remain, we escalate them to the Indian government for further action,” he explained.

During the meeting, key discussions revolved around increasing the number of flights, enhancing passenger amenities, and providing affordable stall spaces at the airport. “Improving lighting infrastructure was also a significant point of discussion,” Deb noted, emphasizing the committee’s commitment to passenger convenience.

A noteworthy development from the meeting was the decision to resume flight services from Agartala to Aizawl and Shillong. “These routes are crucial for connectivity in the region, and their resumption will greatly benefit travelers,” he added.

Addressing the issue of international air services, Deb commented on the current situation in neighboring Bangladesh. “The political situation in Bangladesh is volatile at present. We hope for peace and stability during the interim government. Once the situation normalizes, we aim to resume air services with Bangladesh,” he stated, highlighting the significance of cross-border connectivity.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to enhancing the overall functionality and passenger experience at Agartala MBB Airport, reaffirming its role as a vital hub for regional and international travel.
