The Indigenous People’s Forum has strongly condemned the violent attack on a Naga woman from K. Lungwiram, an exclusively Liangmai Naga village, on January 7, 2025. The incident occurred around 12:30 pm while the woman was overseeing land leveling work using an excavator in the village, located just 2 km from the Leimakhong Army Cantonment.
According to reports, a group of approximately 20 Kuki individuals obstructed the work, verbally abused the villagers, and physically assaulted the woman. She was thrown to the ground, manhandled, and subjected to threats. The mob also destroyed her mobile phone. The situation escalated with the arrival of over 100 Kuki youths, who issued further threats to burn the excavator and harm the Naga villagers.
Video evidence has surfaced, clearly showing the mob’s aggressive behavior, including verbal abuse, intimidation, and threats against the villagers. Witnesses have corroborated the victim’s account of the deliberate obstruction and harassment.
The Indigenous People’s Forum has called for immediate action from the district administration and law enforcement agencies to hold the perpetrators accountable. It has also urged authorities to ensure the safety and protection of the Naga villagers in K. Lungwiram.
The forum emphasized the need for mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, stating that such acts of violence and intimidation are unacceptable and undermine community harmony.
