Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Sunday highlighted the enduring coexistence among the state’s indigenous communities, urging collective efforts to foster unity and preserve cultural heritage.
Speaking at the state-level ‘Gaan-Ngai’ celebration at Sagolband Ramji Kabui Village in Imphal West, Singh stressed the importance of safeguarding traditions and honoring ancestral legacies. “We should inculcate a sense of belongingness and oneness while protecting our cultural heritage,” he said.
The Chief Minister also called for environmental preservation, citing global natural calamities as a consequence of neglecting nature. He recalled initiating the “Green Imphal, Green Manipur” campaign during his tenure as Forest and Environment Minister in 2004-05 and appealed for public cooperation in protecting the environment.
Biren Singh proposed hosting the state-level Gaan-Ngai Festival at the Sangai Ethnic Park in Moirang Khunou, which is set for significant upgrades with an additional Rs 100 crore funding request. Additionally, he announced a Rs 150 crore Unity Mall project in Keikol, Imphal East, where dedicated stalls will showcase the culture of Manipur’s 34 tribes, promoting the state’s rich diversity. The Chief Minister reiterated his vision for a developed and united Manipur, urging citizens to take collective responsibility in achieving this goal.
