Namsai, Jan 15: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein officially inaugurated the Parshuram Kund Mela on January 15, 2025, an important spiritual event that attracts thousands of devotees from across India and abroad. Held annually during Makar Sankranti, the festival is a major religious gathering in the Northeast, often referred to as the “Kumbh of the Northeast.”
In his opening remarks, DCM Chowna Mein greeted the people of Arunachal Pradesh and the nation on Makar Sankranti, underscoring the festival’s significance as a celebration of faith and unity. “I warmly welcome all pilgrims and visitors to Parshuram Kund. It is my honor to be part of this sacred occasion,” he said.
Chowna Mein participated in a Havan Puja led by respected Sadhus, praying for peace, prosperity, and harmony for Arunachal Pradesh and the country. “I prayed for the well-being and prosperity of all the people of Arunachal and the entire nation,” he added.
In a move aimed at enhancing the pilgrimage experience, the Deputy Chief Minister announced an allocation of ₹50 crore for infrastructure upgrades under the riverfront development project. The funding is expected to improve facilities at Parshuram Kund, transforming it into a world-class spiritual destination and boosting the region’s tourism potential.
Chowna Mein also highlighted the completion of several infrastructure developments under the PRASAD scheme, including the opening of a new guest house to accommodate the increasing number of visitors. “We are committed to providing top-notch facilities to ensure a comfortable and enriching spiritual experience for every pilgrim,” he said.
To recognize the efforts of volunteers, the Deputy Chief Minister distributed dress coats as a token of appreciation. Additionally, he announced plans to carry holy water from Parshuram Kund to the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, symbolizing spiritual unity.
The Parshuram Kund Mela this year saw a notable increase in attendance, with the organizing committee reporting double the number of devotees compared to previous years. The event was attended by key figures including MLA Namsai Zingnu Namchoom, Lohit ZPC Dasula Krisikro, SPs of Namsai and Lohit Districts, and other public leaders.
The Parshuram Kund Mela continues to be a prominent event in Arunachal Pradesh, fostering spiritual unity, promoting cultural heritage, and enhancing tourism in the region.
