Kohima, January 20: The Tenyimi Union Nagaland (TUN) has expressed deep concerns over the recently amended Free Movement Regime (FMR) guidelines along the Indo-Myanmar border, urging the Government of India to reconsider the restrictive policy.
The revised guidelines limit cross-border travel to a 10-kilometer radius, reduce the validity of border passes to seven days, and introduce a multilayered verification process. The TUN fears that these restrictions will severely impact the lives of Naga people living along the border, disrupting economic, social, and cultural interactions between communities on both sides.
This is not the first time the TUN has raised concerns about border restrictions. Earlier, they opposed the proposed border fencing, citing its potential to devastate Naga communities. The TUN is urging the Indian government to engage in meaningful dialogue with Naga stakeholders before making decisions that affect their ancestral land.
