Agartala, January 21, 2025: Tripura’s Srinagar police have arrested a man in connection with the tragic death of a housewife, Malina Nama, who set herself on fire following an alleged family dispute.
A police official stated, “On December 12 last year, Malina Nama took the extreme step after reportedly being insulted and beaten by her brother-in-law Sajal Nama and his wife. The incident took place during a heated altercation at their residence.”
According to the officer, Malina poured kerosene on herself and set herself ablaze in an act of despair. She was immediately rescued and rushed to Anandanagar Hospital, from where she was referred to GB Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries 13 days later.
Before her passing, Malina reportedly confided in those around her, saying, “I couldn’t bear the humiliation anymore. That’s why I did this to myself.”
The police launched an investigation based on her statements and the evidence gathered. Sajal Nama has since been taken into custody.
“The arrest is a step toward ensuring justice for the victim. We are committed to uncovering all the facts related to this heartbreaking case,” the officer added.
This tragic incident has sparked discussions about the impact of domestic disputes and the need for early intervention to prevent such devastating outcomes.
