Manipur CM Announces Rs 3,300 Crore RCC Road Project For Greater Imphal

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh revealed on Tuesday that the state government is set to sign an agreement for the construction of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) roads in Greater Imphal, with a projected cost of Rs 3,300 crore. The agreement is expected to be finalized later this month. The project aims to provide long-lasting roads that will require minimal repairs over the next 30 to 40 years.

During his address at a public event, Singh also highlighted various welfare initiatives, including the expansion of the Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang (Health Assistance) scheme, which now offers cashless medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. The scheme has benefited over 2 lakh people, with the state spending more than Rs 280 crore. Additionally, around 3 lakh people have benefited from the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

The CM further shared details of infrastructure development efforts, including the construction of RCC retaining walls along riverbanks to mitigate flooding, costing Rs 460 crore. He also mentioned the Imphal River Project, estimated at Rs 80 crore, aimed at improving local infrastructure.

In healthcare, Singh announced that Rs 100 crore has been allocated to upgrade medical facilities in hill districts such as Chandel, Ukhrul, and Senapati. These facilities will include advanced medical services like CT scans, MRIs, and super-specialty care.

Singh also expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari for their support in the construction of bridges along National Highway-37, which will ensure year-round accessibility.

At the event, renowned playwright and theatre director Ratan Thiyam was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the arts. Additionally, commendations were given to Assam and Manipur police officers for their exceptional service and support in training new recruits.
