Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Manipur, has invoked Clause (1) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India to summon the 7th session of the Twelfth Manipur Legislative Assembly. The session is set to convene at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 10, 2025, in the Assembly Hall in Imphal.

The session comes at a critical juncture as Manipur continues to grapple with the aftermath of intense communal violence that erupted in May 2023. The ongoing conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities has resulted in at least 240 fatalities, over 1,500 injuries, and the displacement of approximately 60,000 people.

This legislative assembly session is expected to serve as a vital platform for addressing the state’s pressing issues and seeking solutions to community demands. The government’s handling of the session, particularly in light of grievances raised by boycotting legislators, will be under close scrutiny. With the violence leaving a profound impact on Manipur’s socio-political fabric, the assembly’s deliberations could significantly influence the path toward stability and reconciliation.
