Shillong, Jan 25: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has inaugurated the First Referral Unit (FRU) at the Ranikor Community Health Center (CHC) in South West Khasi Hills District, marking a significant step in improving healthcare infrastructure in the region. The newly established FRU will provide critical services, including emergency obstetric care, surgical procedures, and essential critical care, prioritizing the well-being of mothers, infants, and patients.

The FRU is part of the state government’s initiative to upgrade selected CHCs, which aims to ease the pressure on district and tertiary hospitals while improving healthcare delivery in rural areas. Ranikor is one of five CHCs to receive the upgrade in the first phase, alongside Mawphlang, Bhoirymbong, Pynursla, and Resubelpara. A second phase will include six additional CHCs, such as Namdong, Riangdo, Patharkhmah, Selsella, Phulbari, and Dalu.

During his visit, CM Sangma also participated in the CM Connect program, engaging with local residents to address their grievances and ensure effective governance. Immediate resolutions were provided for some concerns, while others were directed to relevant officials for prompt action.

The CM emphasized that such outreach programs are integral to promoting government accountability and responsiveness. The Ranikor session marks the sixth edition of the CM Connect initiative, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to public welfare and transparent governance.
