During his address, Governor Singh commended the Election Commission of India (ECI) for its role in ensuring free and fair elections and highlighted the global recognition of India’s use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), even in remote areas. He described India as one of the world’s most successful democracies, owing to its transparent electoral processes.

The Governor also praised the efforts of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), District Election Officers (DEOs), and other officials in the smooth conduct of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Mizoram. He paid tribute to five police personnel who lost their lives during election duties, expressing condolences and acknowledging their sacrifices. The state government has provided ex-gratia payments of Rs. 15 lakh to the families of the fallen officers.

Governor Singh urged all eligible voters to ensure their registration in the electoral rolls and take an active part in elections, emphasizing that voting is a powerful way to shape government policies.

The program began with a welcome address by Er. Lalhriatpuia, District Election Officer, Aizawl District, followed by a message from Rajiv Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner of India. A pledge-taking ceremony was led by RK Rinsanglura, a student from St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, and the event concluded with the distribution of EPICs and BLO Awards.

National Voters’ Day, observed annually on January 25 to mark the establishment of the Election Commission of India in 1950, encourages citizens to participate in the electoral process. This year’s theme is “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure.” As of January 6, 2025, Mizoram has 8,69,813 registered voters, including 4,20,888 males and 4,48,925 females.
