Agartala, January 25, 2025: Tripura Police in a late-night operation conducted a raid at the North Continental Hotel on Dharmanagar Station Road under North Tripura district and recovered a sophisticated 0.32 mm pistol. Two individuals from outside the state were apprehended during the operation, sending shockwaves through the local community on the eve of Republic Day.
Acting on a tip-off, Dharmanagar Police swiftly mobilized to the hotel and executed the raid. The suspects, identified as Niraj Kumar and Indal Kumar from Samastipur, Bihar were taken into custody. Speaking to media personnel, senior police official confirmed the recovery of the weapon, stating, “The information we received was precise, and our team acted swiftly to ensure the suspects were apprehended without incident.”
The arrested individuals are currently being held at Dharmanagar Police Station, where a case has been registered against them under Sections U/S-25/27 of the Arms Act and Section 111(1) of the BNS. “This is a serious matter, especially given the timing just ahead of Republic Day. We are thoroughly investigating the origins of the firearm and the intentions of the suspects,” the official added.
The recovery of the illegal weapon has sparked concerns among residents of Dharmanagar and the surrounding areas. Many have raised questions about the security situation in the region. A local resident expressed alarm, saying, “An incident like this so close to such a significant national event makes us all worry about the safety measures in place.”
Authorities have assured the public that security has been heightened across the district in light of the incident. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of every citizen, and strict vigilance will be maintained,” said the Superintendent of Police.
