Manipur marked the 76th Republic Day with a grand celebration at the historic Kangla Fort, where Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla unfurled the national flag and took the salute from 54 march-past contingents, including cultural and departmental tableaux.
The event saw the participation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, cabinet ministers, members of parliament and the legislative assembly, as well as senior civil and police officials. The tricolour was unfurled amidst the playing of the national anthem by the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles band.
A highlight of the celebration was the recognition of officers and personnel of the Manipur Police Department, who were awarded Police Medals for Meritorious Service for Republic Day 2023 and Independence Day 2023 by the Governor.
Delivering a vote of thanks, Chief Minister Biren Singh lauded the participants’ discipline and unity, expressing hope for peace and harmony in Manipur. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding the state and contributing to India’s development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Chief Minister also highlighted India’s progress toward becoming the fourth-largest global economy and encouraged everyone to work towards making Bharat a global superpower.
The Republic Day celebrations were also observed across Manipur’s district headquarters, showcasing cultural unity and patriotism.
