Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the people of Pathsala to buy and gift books in support of the government’s initiative to celebrate 2025 as the “Year of Books.” Sarma made this call during his visit to Bhattadeva Kshetra on Tuesday, where he reviewed the preparations for the 77th biennial session of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, set to begin on January 31.
Highlighting the importance of books in fostering a culture of learning, Sarma encouraged citizens, including journalists, teachers, students, and politicians, to purchase and exchange books during the event.
This year’s Asam Sahitya Sabha will feature a book fair and a science fair, replacing the traditional trade fair. The science fair will explore the intersection of literature and science, in collaboration with Bajali Hat. Cultural programs showcasing Assam’s rich traditions will also be an integral part of the session, along with a grand japi made from 1,500 tokou leaves from Arunachal Pradesh, symbolizing Assamese heritage.
The session will engage local students and artists, adding a youthful and cultural vibrancy to the event. Earlier in December 2024, Sarma had urged writers to focus on themes that inspire hope and highlight India’s glorious past and promising future.
