A massive fire broke out early Thursday morning at the oldest market in Hayuliang town, Anjaw district, destroying 15 shops. The blaze, which started around 5 am, rapidly spread and engulfed the entire market, causing significant property damage. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Due to the lack of a local fire station, firefighting services were dispatched from Hawai, the district headquarters, located over an hour and a half away. By the time the fire brigade arrived, the market had already been severely damaged.
Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Millo Kojin confirmed that a damage assessment is underway, and interim relief efforts have been initiated. Local MLA and Minister for Women & Child Development, Dasanglu Pul, has assured support to the affected shopkeepers. The Indian Army also provided assistance in controlling the fire and preventing its spread.
Relief operations will continue based on the evaluation by the District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO).
