Manipur: Transport Department Hosts Half Marathon And Fun Run As Part of National Road Safety Month 2025

As part of National Road Safety Month 2025, the Transport Department organized a Half Marathon (21 km) and a Fun Run (5 km) today. The event was jointly flagged off by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Transport Minister Khashim Vashum from the City Convention Centre, Konung Mamang.

Deputy Director of the Transport Department, ST Rithung Anal, emphasized the significance of the marathon in promoting road safety awareness. The Half Marathon route covered key locations including Konung Mamang, Sanjenthong, GPO, Nityaipat Chuthek, Keishampat, Kwakeithel, Ningthemkol, Airport Road, Malom Bazar, Malom Oil Depot, Meitram, and back to the City Convention Centre.

Nearly 500 athletes participated in the men’s Half Marathon, where Kh. Romajit of Khundrakpam Awang Leikai secured first place with an impressive finish time of 01:12:04. Konthoujam Somorjit from Yambem Makha Leikai claimed second place, finishing at 01:13:05, followed by Yumnam Arjit of Waiton Makha Leikai in third place with a time of 01:13:15.

In the women’s category, Tayenjam Russia Chanu of Ngairangbam Makha Leikai took the top spot, finishing at 01:29:17. Thounoujam Maria Chanu from Haoreibi Mayai Leikai secured second place with a time of 01:41:41, while Makakmayum Khalida Mastan of Sunrise Public School finished third at 01:42:41.

The event successfully raised awareness about road safety while encouraging fitness and community participation.
