Agartala, February 4, 2025: The Central Working Committee (CWC) of the All Tripura Government Doctors’ Association (ATGDA) held a crucial meeting with Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha at his official residence on Monday evening. The discussions revolved around six significant agendas concerning the state’s healthcare services and the welfare of government doctors.
The primary points of discussion included amendments to the Tripura State Health Services (THS) regulations, raising the retirement age of THS doctors to 65 years, reappointment issues of retired doctors, absorption of THS doctors into the Tripura Medical Education Services (TMES), and amendments to TMES rules. Additionally, the delegation sought approval for the absorption of 19 ad-hoc MBBS doctors through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC).
The CWC also highlighted the issue of doctors currently on short-term deputation, requesting that their status be converted to permanent transfers for better healthcare delivery.
Expressing his concern over the demands, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha assured the delegation of timely action. He directed the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) and the Health Secretary’s office to initiate necessary steps in a time-bound manner, particularly regarding the Tripura State Health Services Amendment and the regularization of ad-hoc medical practitioners.
“The Chief Minister showed a keen interest in our issues and assured us of the government’s commitment to addressing them,” stated Dr. Kanak Choudhury, General Secretary of ATGDA, in a social media post following the meeting.
Furthermore, the CWC secured the Chief Minister’s consent to be the chief guest at the Biennual State Conference of ATGDA, scheduled for March 8, 2025.
It is noteworthy that ATGDA President could not attend the meeting due to health reasons, as he is currently out of the state.
The meeting has raised hopes among government doctors that their long-pending demands will be met, ensuring a more efficient healthcare system in Tripura.
