Meghalaya Pollution Board Shuts Down 6 Factories In Byrnihat Over Air Pollution Violations

Meghalaya, Feb 5: In response to growing public protests over severe air pollution, the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board has ordered the immediate closure of six factories in Byrnihat for violating environmental norms.

The board had conducted a surprise night inspection at 13 Mile, Tamulkuchi, to identify factories operating in contravention of air pollution norms. Following the inspection, fines were imposed on two factories: Shyam Century Ferro Alloy Pvt Ltd was fined ₹4 lakh, while Khasi Alloy Ltd was fined ₹2 lakh.

According to officials, surprise inspections will continue periodically across the state to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
