Agartala, February 05, 2025: A man was injured in a firing incident by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel while allegedly attempting to cross the international border of Tripura and Bangladesh illegally. The incident took place on Tuesday around 6 PM in the BOP Putia area of Sepahijala district.

According to an official statement from the BSF, jawans on duty spotted two individuals- a man and a woman approaching the border fence from the Bangladesh side. Despite multiple warnings to stop, the duo allegedly ignored the instructions and engaged in a scuffle with a sentry. “One of the individuals even attempted to snatch the sentry’s pump action gun (PAG),” the BSF stated.

In response, and following the standard operating procedure, the sentry fired a single round in self-defense. “As a result, the male suspect sustained minor injuries, while the female managed to escape into a nearby village,” the statement further added.

Following an investigation, the injured individual was identified as Akhtar Jamal Roni, a resident of Putia village in Boxanagar block under Sepahijala district. “He later admitted to crossing into India from Bangladesh without valid documents,” BSF sources confirmed.

BSF personnel provided immediate medical aid to the injured individual. “We have ensured that he received necessary assistance, and the matter is currently under investigation,” the BSF official said.
