Agartala, February 06, 2025: A high-level delegation from the National Defense College (NDC), New Delhi, paid a courtesy visit to Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu at the Raj Bhavan in Agartala city on Wednesday. The delegation was led by Brigadier Rajesh Raman, Secretary of the NDC. During the meeting, the Governor extended a warm welcome and highlighted Tripura’s rich cultural heritage, historical significance, and strategic geographical location.
The delegation, comprising officers from the Army, Air Force, Navy, and foreign representatives from Australia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Maldives, and Tanzania, engaged in discussions about their experiences in Tripura. The officers lauded the state’s unique identity and the evolving economic landscape.
As part of their visit, a 16-member delegation of the NDC, including three foreign representatives from Indonesia, Myanmar, and Australia toured the Sabroom Integrated Check Post (ICP) and Maitri Bridge in South Tripura District on Tuesday. Accompanied by South Tripura District Magistrate Smita Mol and Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Sinha, the delegation inspected various aspects of the land port and the bridge to assess their operational capacity and future prospects.
During a discussion at the Sabroom ICP conference hall, the infrastructure, beautification, and future expansion of the facility were reviewed. Officials explained how Sabroom ICP and Maitree Bridge are poised to become key trade corridors for South Asia, enhancing India-Bangladesh trade and economic self-reliance for local populations on both sides of the border.
Debashish Nandi, General Manager of LPI (Tripura Zone), shared the delegation’s impressions, stating, “The representatives from the National Defense College expressed satisfaction with the development of Sabroom ICP and Maitri Bridge. The infrastructure is in place, and it is only a matter of time before trade activities between India and Bangladesh see a significant boost.”
The visit was attended by several key officials, including District Magistrate Smita Mol, Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Sinha, SDM Shibajyoti Datta, SDPO Nityananda Sarkar, and ICP officer Bishwamitra Debnath. The delegation acknowledged the strategic and economic importance of Sabroom ICP, providing positive feedback on its effectiveness in enhancing regional connectivity and trade.
