Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met India’s badminton star PV Sindhu on Thursday, accompanied by her husband Venkata Datta Sal. During the meeting, Sarma congratulated the couple and praised Sindhu’s remarkable achievements in the sport, extending his best wishes for her future endeavors, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

Sindhu, currently ranked 12th in the world, recently suffered an early exit from the Indonesia Masters tournament, losing in the first round to world number 32 Nguyen Thuy Linh of Vietnam. The match ended with scores of 22-20, 21-12 in 37 minutes.

Despite this setback, Sindhu celebrated a major victory earlier by claiming her first BWF World Tour title in over two years at the Syed Modi India International Badminton Tournament in Lucknow. She defeated China’s Wu Luo Yu 21-14, 21-16 in straight games to secure the title.

Throughout her distinguished career, Sindhu has earned five medals at the BWF World Championships, joining China’s Zhang Ning as one of only two women to achieve this milestone. She also made history at the Rio 2016 Olympics by winning silver and followed it up with a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, becoming the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals.

Sindhu’s continued success has cemented her place as one of the sport’s leading figures and a source of inspiration for aspiring athletes worldwide.
