Ten MLAs from the Kuki-Zo community, including seven from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have welcomed the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur. In a joint statement, the legislators supported the Centre’s decision to suspend the Assembly and expressed hope for a comprehensive political roadmap to restore peace and justice through a negotiated settlement.
The MLAs also urged for time-bound measures to alleviate the suffering of conflict-affected and internally displaced people in the state. The statement was signed by MLAs Haokholet Kipgen (Saitu), Letpao Haokip (Tengnoupal), Nemcha Kipgen (Kangpokpi), Nguranglur Sanate (Tipaimukh), Paolienlal Haokip (Saikot), Chinlunthang (Singhat), Kimneo Haokip Hangshing (Saikul), and Vungzagin Valte (Thanlon).
Meanwhile, the Kuki-Zo Council has announced a mass rally on February 18 to demand an immediate political solution for the community. In a letter addressed to the President and other relevant bodies, the council reiterated its demand for a separate administration with Union Territory status and a legislature for the Kuki-Zo people.
The rally is set to take place in Churachandpur, Lamka, Kangpokpi, Pherzawl, Jiribam, Moreh, Chandel, as well as in Delhi and the NCR region. Organizers have confirmed that all preparations for the event have been completed.
