Governor KT Parnaik inaugurated the new counselling hall and isolation room at the Charju De-Addiction Centre in Tirap district on Monday. The centre, managed by the Care Me Home Welfare Society (CMHWS), aims to provide support and rehabilitation to individuals struggling with addiction.

The Governor was escorted around the facility by CMHWS chairperson Sontung Lowang Bangsia and prominent social activist Tai Tagak, who briefed him on the centre’s initiatives and impact on the community.

Governor Parnaik praised the efforts of CMHWS, noting that helping people overcome addiction is a noble cause. He expressed deep concern over the rising drug addiction problem among the youth and the growing influence of drug peddlers, which he said is damaging society.

In his address, the Governor called on panchayat members, gaon burahs, and community elders to play an active role in guiding and mentoring the youth to prevent addiction. He emphasized that early intervention is crucial to ensuring young people lead healthy, productive lives.

Encouraging those battling addiction, Parnaik reassured them of a bright future ahead, urging them to stay focused, engage in sports, and acquire new skills to aid their recovery. He also affirmed the state government’s full support for their rehabilitation.

As a gesture of encouragement, Parnaik presented a ‘Team Arunachal’ lapel pin to a reformed youth who shared his journey of overcoming addiction. The Governor urged the individual to use his experience to inspire others to pursue a drug-free life.

The inauguration was attended by local MLA Wanglam Sawin, Tirap Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran, Director General of Police Anand Mohan, senior police officials, and other government representatives.
