Governor KT Parnaik has praised the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for their crucial role in transforming the socioeconomic landscape of Arunachal Pradesh, both in rural and urban areas. Speaking during an interaction with women SHG members from Lohit district on Monday, Parnaik emphasized the significant contributions of women in various fields, including education, sports, and entrepreneurship.

The governor encouraged the formation of more SHGs, highlighting the power of teamwork in driving impact and fostering sustainable growth. He also urged women to take the lead in environmental initiatives, such as volunteering as hygiene and sanitation inspectors in their villages, and ensuring that every child completes their education.

In support of financial empowerment, Parnaik announced the provision of 15 sewing machines for SHGs, urging skilled women to train others in tailoring to promote economic independence. He also encouraged SHGs to explore entrepreneurial ventures, such as salons and beauty parlours, to generate employment opportunities.

The governor commended the Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM) for its role in promoting self-reliance and empowering women. ArSRLM Tezu Block Mission Manager Takar Hakom briefed the governor on the activities in the district, mentioning that 206 SHGs are currently active in Lohit.

Lohit District Commissioner Kesang Ngurup Damo was also present at the event.
