Leishemba Sanajaoba, the Titular King of Manipur and Rajya Sabha MP, met with Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan on Monday to discuss the ongoing political situation in the state, which is currently under President’s Rule. This was the first meeting between the two leaders since the suspension of the state assembly on February 13, 2025.
During the discussion, Sanajaoba raised the issue of the 1949 Manipur Merger Agreement, which he had earlier brought to Parliament’s attention on February 11. He urged the government to ensure the effective implementation of the agreement, with a focus on the importance of Article 8, which he believes is vital for the state’s socio-economic, cultural, and political development. Sanajaoba also stressed that there are no adequate provisions or safeguards in place to address these concerns, calling on the government to take necessary steps to address the issue.
The Titular King was accompanied by his wife and son during the meeting.
