A 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck the North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya on the morning of February 20, causing brief panic but no casualties. The tremors, which were recorded at 11:32 am IST, were also felt in parts of Assam, including the city of Guwahati.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located at coordinates 25.87°N, 90.70°E, with a shallow depth of 5 kilometers. Shallow earthquakes typically cause more noticeable surface shaking. Despite the tremors, no immediate reports of damage or injuries have been reported from either Meghalaya or Assam.
The northeastern region is known for its seismic activity, but the tremor was considered low-intensity.
