Kohima, Feb 20: A five-member delegation from India, including Meyasashi, Director of Horticulture, and S. Senka, Joint Director of Horticulture from Nagaland, visited New Zealand from February 12 to 15, 2025, to explore opportunities for enhancing the kiwifruit industry. The visit was organized by the New Zealand Embassy in Delhi as part of a broader effort to develop India’s kiwifruit sector in partnership with Zespri International Limited, the world’s leading kiwifruit exporter.

During their visit, the delegation engaged in productive discussions with key stakeholders in Auckland, including the Consul General of India, members of the India-New Zealand Business Council, scientists from Plant & Food Research, and officials from Zespri International Ltd. The team also toured kiwifruit orchards, export packhouses, and nurseries to learn about best practices in cultivation, post-harvest handling, and export procedures.

Nagaland, which ranks as the second-largest kiwifruit-producing state in India, stands to benefit from enhanced collaboration with New Zealand, the global leader in kiwifruit production. The partnership is expected to foster technological exchange, improve agricultural practices, and drive economic growth, particularly for farmers in Nagaland and other Indian states.

With the support of both the Central and State Governments, the collaboration aims to boost the country’s kiwifruit industry, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
