Shillong, Feb 21: A delegation of 24 youth from Meghalaya is taking part in the International Youth Exchange Programme (IYEP) in Jakarta, Indonesia, from February 16 to 22. The initiative aims to foster cultural exchange, leadership development, and global exposure for students.
Launched in 2015, IYEP provides students with opportunities to represent their institutions at district, state, national, and international levels. This marks the fourth batch of Meghalaya students to participate. Out of 600 applicants in 2023, only 24 students from 12 districts were selected.
Ahead of their departure, a two-day orientation session was held in Shillong on February 14 and 15. The team, accompanied by four officials from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, reached Jakarta on February 17.
During their visit, the delegation explored historical and cultural landmarks in Jakarta. On February 19, they took part in a cultural exchange programme at St John Bosco Parish, where they were welcomed by Parish Rector Fr Paulus Rarasta and local youth. They also visited vocational and technical training institutes in the city.
On February 21, the team travelled to Bali for further activities organised by the Directorate.
