Agartala, March 01, 2025: In a bid to boost agricultural development and strengthen Self Help Groups (SHGs), Punjab National Bank (PNB) organized an Agriculture Outreach Programme at Agartala’s Town Hall on Saturday. The event was inaugurated by Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy in presence of PNB’s GMD & MD Ashok Chandra, Circle Head Rituraj Krishna (DGM) and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Finance Minister Singha Roy emphasized the critical role of SHGs in transforming rural economies. “Agriculture is the backbone of our country, and Self Help Groups are becoming a major force behind rural progress. By providing financial assistance and technical support, PNB is enabling farmers and small entrepreneurs to achieve self-reliance,” he stated.
PNB’s GMD & MD Ashok Chandra highlighted the bank’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and rural upliftment. “Punjab National Bank has always prioritized initiatives that empower farmers. This outreach programme reflects our dedication to ensuring that the benefits of financial inclusion reach every farmer, every SHG, and every rural entrepreneur. We believe in fostering growth that enhances both productivity and livelihoods,” he said.
During the event, 435 leads amounting to Rs. 26.12 crore were generated, and 54 cases were sanctioned with beneficiaries receiving their sanction letters on the spot.
PNB’s Circle Head Rituraj Krishna stressed the long-term impact of such initiatives. “The goal is not just financial assistance, but also knowledge sharing and capacity building. By supporting SHGs in agriculture and allied sectors, we are contributing to nation-building in a meaningful way,” he remarked.
