Agartala, March 04, 2025: A high-level delegation from NF Railways led by General Manager (Construction) Arun Kumar Chowdhury met Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha at the Secretariat in Agartala city on Tuesday to discuss the development of railway services and infrastructure in the state.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for modernization and expansion of railway facilities to boost connectivity and economic growth. “Railway development is crucial for our state’s progress. Electrification, introduction of new train services, and station upgrades will enhance travel convenience and promote trade,” he stated.
During the meeting, key projects such as the electrification of railway lines, the introduction of electric passenger trains from Badarpur to Sabroom, and the conversion of single-line railway tracks to double lines were discussed. The delegation also reviewed the current status of 23 railway overbridges and the transformation of Agartala, Dharmanagar and Udaipur railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Highlighting the need for enhanced connectivity, the Chief Minister urged railway officials to expedite the introduction of Agartala-Guwahati intercity rail service, Agartala-Jammu, Agartala-Puri, and Agartala-Gaya Express trains. He also stressed the importance of alternative railway lines from Pecharthal to Dharmanagar via Kailashahar as well as extending rail connectivity from Jirania railway station to Bodhjungnagar and Jogendranagar industrial estates.
“We must ensure Agartala Railway Station is transformed into a world-class facility. Cleanliness and passenger amenities should be prioritized,” Dr. Saha directed the officials. He also reviewed the progress of the Guwahati-Agartala Vande Bharat Express, the fuel storage depot at Sekerkote and the Agartala-Akhaura railway project.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Minister’s Secretary Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty and Joint Secretary of the Transport Department Maitree Debnath.
