Aizawl, Mar 19: Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma on Wednesday launched the Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme, which is scheduled to take effect in April. The launch event was held at the Assembly Annexe Conference Hall.
In his speech, the Chief Minister highlighted the scheme’s objective to replace existing healthcare programs, providing better coverage and protection to both empanelled hospitals and the public. He reassured that despite financial challenges, the state government remains committed to the scheme, with full cooperation from banks ensuring its success.
The scheme was initially intended to be funded through a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), though the process is still ongoing. However, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that the program would move forward even if the ADB loan does not materialize. To prepare for its launch, the government has allocated Rs. 14.50 crore this month to clear pending healthcare bills.
The Chief Minister emphasized the crucial role of a strong healthcare system in the development and well-being of the people. He expressed optimism that the scheme would be well-received by citizens.
The healthcare scheme will operate in a paperless and cashless manner, offering ease of access and eliminating out-of-pocket expenses. It will cover all government employees, civil pensioners, the general public, and those with Golden Cards under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).
Enrollment for the scheme will be open during the scheduled period, with an annual registration fee of Rs. 2,500 per family. The scheme will provide healthcare coverage of up to Rs. 5,00,000, and government employees and civil pensioners will contribute through monthly income deductions.
The launch event, organized during the Assembly Session recess, was attended by Pu H. Lalengmawia, Commissioner & Secretary, along with Pu Lalbiakzama, Speaker, Pu K. Sapdanga, Home Minister, Pi Lalrinpuii, Health & Family Welfare Minister, other ministers, MLAs, and press members.
