Aizawl, Mar 19: K Vanlalvena, the sole Rajya Sabha representative from Mizoram, informed Parliament that the 51.38-km broad gauge railway line connecting Bairabi station at the Assam border to Sairang, near Aizawl, will be completed by July this year. He also extended an invitation to fellow Rajya Sabha members to attend the inauguration ceremony.
In a discussion on railway projects on Monday, Vanlalvena revealed that 95% of the Bairabi-Sairang railway construction has been finished. The project has utilized Rs 7,714 crore out of the total allocated budget of Rs 8,215 crore.
The railway line will feature four stations—Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang-Sihhmui—and will include significant infrastructure such as 32 underground tunnels, 15 cut-and-covered tunnels, 55 major bridges, and 89 minor bridges. The project will also feature five bridges above main roads and four bridges below them.
