Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Wednesday that the state government is fully committed to protecting the wildlife in Kaziranga National Park. He highlighted that continuous efforts have led to the expansion of animal habitats within the park. In a post on his X handle, CM Sarma shared, “Expanding faunal habitats. During regular patrolling, Biswanath Police spotted a tiger at the 6th extension of Kaziranga National Park in Biswanath. We are creating suitable habitats for our faunal friends and safeguarding them round the clock so that they continue to thrive.”
The Chief Minister also underscored the growing importance of Assam as a key tourism destination. He noted that over three crore domestic tourists have visited the state in the last four years, attributing this surge to Assam’s cultural heritage, scenic beauty, and improved infrastructure.
Additionally, CM Sarma pointed out that the state has witnessed an increase in international tourists, with over 60,000 foreign visitors exploring Assam since 2021. This growing global interest underscores the state’s rising status as a premier travel destination.
The Chief Minister further emphasized that the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) has experienced a significant rise in tourism, particularly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit in March 2024. PM Modi became the first Prime Minister of India to spend a night at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, contributing to its global recognition.
With its lush landscapes, wildlife reserves, and rich cultural heritage, Assam is rapidly becoming one of India’s top travel destinations.
