A day after a massive mob torched the residence of BJP Minority Morcha’s Manipur president, Md Asker Ali, in Lilong over his support for the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, the Thoubal district administration on Monday imposed prohibitory orders across the entire Lilong assembly constituency.

The restrictions, enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), were issued by the district magistrate to prevent further escalation of tension. The order bans the assembly of five or more individuals and prohibits the public from carrying firearms, sticks, stones, or other potentially lethal weapons.

Following the violent backlash, Ali issued an apology and retracted his earlier statement, denouncing the Act and expressing regret.
