Agartala, April 07, 2025: The terrorist groups National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) formally surrendered in Agartala as per an agreement with the central government. The surrender took place on March 7, 2024, was marked by the handover of weapons by two leaders. The individuals were identified as Samendra Reang, a resident of Pushmaram Para, Anandabazar Police Station and Mudi Ram Reang, a resident of Uom Joy Para, Damcherra Police Station.
Despite the progress, concerns are mounting over a newly formed terrorist group allegedly comprising youth from Assam, Mizoram, and Tripura. According to sources, this group has an estimated 45 members, primarily from Kanchanpur and Panisagar subdivisions. Their base of operations is reportedly located in Jopui and Nab Chha, Bangladesh. Seven leaders are believed to helm the organization, with three identified as Philip Reang from Anand Bazar Setu Doar, Anida Reang from Bhandarima, and Jitendra Reang from Assam.
Authorities are responding to the emerging threat. Last night, the Anandabazar Police Station, acting on a tip-off, arrested a suspected militant named Anida Reang near Rajib Nagar Bazar in Mizoram’s Mamit district. Reang, a resident of the Bhandarima area was found in possession of a country-made gun and seven live cartridges.
Reports also suggest that members of the militant group are active in areas of Kanchanpur subdivision, including Monpui, Taichanda, Simlong, and Bamboo Bari. These individuals have allegedly been soliciting donations heightening fears among the local population.
When contacted, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Anandabazar Police Station declined to comment on the matter. Meanwhile, the public remains on edge as the presence of militants continues to loom over the hilly terrain of Kanchanpur subdivision.
