Agartala, April 08, 2025: Chief Minister and Health Minister of Tripura, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, on Monday announced that the state government has allocated Rs 100 crore for the establishment of a state-of-the-art eye hospital. The announcement was made during a World Health Day event organized by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura in Agartala on Monday.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha said that the proposed eye hospital will be equipped with modern facilities and is part of the government’s broader plan to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the state. “In this year’s budget, we have kept Rs 100 crore for setting up an eye hospital with all necessary facilities,” he stated.
He also informed that work has already begun on a Maternal and Child Clinic in the state, backed by over Rs 150 crore in funding from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER). “Infrastructure development is underway, and more manpower will be added to enhance services. We are also opening more Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across Tripura,” he added.
Highlighting the progress made in the health sector, Dr. Saha said, “The state is witnessing development, and with peace prevailing, private hospitals and investors are showing interest. Our aim is to ensure every citizen lives a happy and healthy life.”
Speaking on the importance of preventive healthcare, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for lifestyle changes. “Many young lives are lost due to unhealthy lifestyles. We often advise others but fail to follow it ourselves. It’s time we change that,” he said.
Dr. Saha also raised concerns about the rising cases of drug addiction and HIV/AIDS in the state, especially among injectable drug users. He called for collective action to tackle the issue. “We must all join hands in the fight against drugs. The government stands with the people in this mission,” he asserted.
In addition, he urged citizens to stay vigilant against child marriage, noting its long-term physical and mental impact on individuals.
