Agartala, April 12, 2025: In a heartwarming initiative aimed at strengthening the enduring bond with its former soldiers and their families, an Ex-Servicemen (ESM) rally was organised at Agartala Military Station under the aegis of Spear Corps on Saturday. The event was held with the overarching theme of “Connect, Care, Share & Solve,” reaffirming the Army’s commitment to the welfare of its veterans, Veer Naris (war widows), and their families.

According to an official statement released by the Army authorities in Tripura, the rally was designed to provide a comprehensive support platform for ex-servicemen and their families. The event aimed at disseminating information on post-retirement entitlements, government welfare schemes, and addressing long-pending grievances. “This rally is a testimony to the Army’s unwavering dedication to those who have served the nation with courage and honour,” read the statement.

The event was inaugurated by Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Spear Corps, who delivered the welcome address. In his speech, he emphasized the significance of maintaining a continuous connection with veterans.

“Our veterans and Veer Naris are the pillars of our proud military heritage. It is our moral duty and honour to stand by them, just as they once stood by the nation,” said Lt Gen Pendharkar. He also extended heartfelt gratitude to the families of the bravehearts for their enduring resilience and sacrifice.

The rally drew an overwhelming response, with around 1,150 veterans and their dependents in attendance. Among the attendees were 11 Veer Naris, one Veer Maata (mother of a martyr), two gallantry awardees, and one battle casualty – all of whom were honoured during the event for their unmatched service and sacrifice.

To address grievances effectively, the rally featured a dedicated ‘SPARSH Cell’ set up to resolve issues related to the SPARSH (System for Pension Administration – Raksha) platform. Representatives from various Regimental Record Offices, the Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Pensions), state government agencies, and banks collaborated on-site to facilitate prompt resolution of documentation anomalies and pension-related concerns.

Stalls representing the Veterans Sewa Kendra, ECHS Cell, Grievance Cell, MSME and Skill Development Cell, Department of Fisheries and Horticulture, and Against Firm Demand (AFD) Cell were set up to cater to the various needs of ex-servicemen and their families. Additionally, a medical camp with eye and dental clinics was established in coordination with the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Cell, providing essential healthcare services on the spot.

The event provided a much-needed forum for veterans to voice their concerns, seek assistance, and interact with serving officials. It also served as an opportunity for the Army to educate the next of kin (NOK) of veterans about various welfare schemes and entitlements.

Highlighting the spirit of the occasion, Lt Gen Pendharkar noted, “This rally is not just a formal interaction—it is a reaffirmation of the Army’s enduring solidarity with its extended family. We are committed to ensuring that no veteran or Veer Nari feels left behind.”

The Ex-Servicemen Rally at Agartala stands as a vibrant example of the Indian Army’s continuous efforts to uphold the values of camaraderie, gratitude, and support. As the nation progresses, events like these ensure that the sacrifices of its brave hearts are never forgotten and that their families remain firmly embraced within the fold of the Armed Forces.
