Shillong, Apr 16 : Nearly 6 lakh residents in Meghalaya are still without Aadhaar, hindering their access to essential government welfare and development schemes. The enrolment process has been particularly slow in East Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills districts, where 75 per cent and 83 per cent of the populations, respectively, have been enrolled, leaving over 3.27 lakh people unregistered.
“We are working diligently to ensure that everyone is enrolled under the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI),” said a senior official. Currently, nearly 28 lakh people in the state are enrolled.
