Agartala, April 16, 2025: The Pradesh Congress on Wednesday staged a protest outside the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Agartala, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led central government of misusing central agencies to settle political scores. The demonstration led to a scuffle between police personnel and Congress workers, heightening tension in the area.
The protest was sparked by recent ED actions against senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, which the Congress claims are part of a broader conspiracy to malign the party and divert attention from public issues.
Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha lashed out at the BJP, saying, “The BJP government is deeply involved in a conspiracy to defame the Congress and its leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using the ED as a tool of political vendetta. False charge sheets have been filed against Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi to mislead the people and distract from real issues.”
Saha alleged that the BJP’s actions are designed to tarnish the image of the All India Congress Party. “This is nothing but an attempt to weaken the opposition and silence voices that speak for the people,” he added.
MLA Sudip Roy Barman, who also participated in the protest, echoed the sentiment. “Whether inside or outside the Parliament, we have been raising pressing issues of the people. To suppress our voices, the BJP is fabricating false charges and orchestrating conspiracies against our leaders. Today, Congress leaders and workers are protesting across all districts of Tripura to register their dissent against this injustice,” he said.
