A one-day district-level debriefing programme for the Internal Community Resource Person Round at Irengband and Nongmaikhong Gram Panchayats was held today at the Library and Information Centre, Phousupat Leikai, Kakching.
The event was jointly organised by the Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission (MSRLM) and the District Mission Management Unit, Kakching. Moirangthem Kapajit (MCS), Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kakching district, attended as the Chief Guest, while Binota Loitongbam, Mission Manager of MSRLM SISD, presided over the function.
Chanambam Umakanta, Branch Manager of Manipur State Co-operative Bank, Kakching Branch, and Nongmaithem Nimai, Financial Literacy Counsellor from State Bank of India, graced the event as Guests of Honour.
Delivering the keynote address, Taorem James, District Mission Manager of MSRLM, said the programme aims to uplift the economic and social status of women at the grassroots level. It is part of the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission, implemented under the Ministry of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.
James highlighted that the 30-day programme, which commenced on March 19, led to the formation of 69 Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Arong Nongmaikhong and 48 SHGs in Irengband Gram Panchayat.
Today’s debriefing session was conducted to familiarise new members with SHG operations and the process of forming federations from SHGs. Emphasising the role of women, James encouraged participants to move beyond household responsibilities and actively engage in government schemes aimed at enhancing their financial empowerment.
