Assam, April 18: In a shocking revelation, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) aided by one vigilant citizen Palash Ranjan Baruah has unmasked a six-year-long literary fraud in Assam, exposing the mastermind behind the pseudonym “Dr. Paridhi Sarmah.” The accused, identified as Dhrubajyoti Saikia from Sivsagar, allegedly published numerous articles in prominent newspapers under various aliases, duping editors, writers, and readers alike.
Saikia’s audacious scheme involved impersonating a Delhi University professor, complete with fabricated credentials and a stolen identity. He used the photograph of a Karnataka IAS officer, further adding to the deception. The fake “Dr. Sarmah” even went to great lengths to maintain the illusion, using two different phone numbers and adopting a female voice to convince editors and collaborators of his legitimacy.
The CID investigation revealed that Saikia published multiple articles across various publications, earning recognition and respect in literary circles. His writing spanned multiple genres, making it difficult for anyone to suspect foul play. However, diligent sleuthing uncovered the truth behind the pseudonym, exposing Saikia’s elaborate ruse.
The case has sent shockwaves through Assam’s literary community, raising questions about the vetting process and accountability in publishing. As the CID continues to probe the extent of Saikia’s deception, many are left wondering how such a brazen scam went undetected for so long.
The authorities are now working to determine the full scope of Saikia’s actions and identify any potential accomplices.
