Agartala, April 18, 2025: A massive protest march was carried out in Agartala city on Friday under the banner of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Tripura Pradesh in strong opposition to the alleged financial irregularities in the National Herald case. The demonstration was led by Pradesh BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, BJP leader Papiya Datta and several others. The march passed through various parts of the city, culminating in a road meeting that drew a significant crowd.
Addressing the gathering, MP Bhattacharjee launched a scathing attack on Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, accusing them of being at the center of a massive financial scam. “The entire country is ashamed because of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. They are guilty of the National Herald scam, and this has tarnished the nation’s image globally,” Bhattacharjee declared.
Bhattacharjee referred to the recent developments in the case, stating, “On April 15, the Enforcement Directorate filed a chargesheet against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi after four years of rigorous investigation. Financial irregularities amounting to thousands of crores have been uncovered.”
He elaborated on the origins of the case, claiming, “The National Herald was a newspaper published by The Associated Journals Limited, which had taken loans of over Rs 90 crore—mostly from the Congress party. When the publication shut down in 2008, the company was taken over by Young Indian Private Limited, owned by Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. Eventually, property worth several thousand crores changed hands, and the Congress conveniently waived off the loan.”
Calling it a “shameless act,” Bhattacharjee alleged, “Even after being exposed, they have no remorse. The people of this country no longer trust them. It is because of such disgraceful acts that the Congress has now clutched the hands of the CPI(M). But the people of Tripura remember the suffering under the Left-Congress misrule.”
