Agartala, April 18, 2025: In a major boost to dental education in Tripura, the Central Government has granted renewal permission for the 3rd year BDS course at Agartala Government Dental College and IGM Hospital for the academic session 2025–26.

The decision was officially conveyed to the Tripura Government through an order undersigned by the Under Secretary of the Government of India. As per the directive, the renewal has been sanctioned against the original intake capacity of 50 BDS seats. However, it is subject to compliance with the conditions outlined in the undertaking submitted by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tripura.

The official communication further clarified that admission of students for the 2026–27 academic session will only be permitted if the Central Government grants fresh renewal permission or recognition of the BDS degree. Any deviation from this guideline would be treated as irregular and may invite action under the provisions of the Dentists Act, 1948 and associated regulations.

“This renewal not only ensures academic continuity for our dental students but also underlines the importance of maintaining regulatory compliance in medical education,” a senior health official from Tripura remarked.

The development marks a positive stride for the state’s healthcare education infrastructure, reinforcing the commitment towards quality standards and institutional accountability.
